Life is giving us an opportunity of sentient reckoning. Let us question the architectural design practices influenced by Hellenism, classism and supremacy. Join me in this exploration of what life might be like if we redefine a path toward success that relies on collaboration and humility, rather than dominance and entitlement.

What would happen if our design education were to use terminology including words like Humility, Acceptance and Forgiveness, Impermanence, or Sobriety? What might the world be like if designers and architects deliberately design for experiences such as Hygge (Danish for cozy + intimacy + connection) rather than for Perfection?

My work as an architect is guided by the philosophy of wabi-sabi—the acceptance and appreciation of life’s knots and burls. I offer my personal vulnerabilities as I draw back the veil of success, revealing the real learning behind magazine-perfect spaces.
