Ayumi has a keen understanding that global standards could not be one size fits all.

LESLEY MORGADO, PROJECT MANAGER

Some may call me inquisitive. I am inspired by the many cultures and languages of this earth, their differences and similarities. As an interior architect, I honor these cultures and languages, utilizing local materials and artisans. I am guided by a design moral compass that is rooted in my Japanese heritage. I bring a wabi-sabi philosophy into each project, appreciating life’s knots and burls and honoring its very transient nature.

This work has brought me to countries around the globe, to working for large design firms, to owning a small boutique studio. I hold a Bachelor of Science degree from Cornell University and a Masters of Architecture from the University of California at Berkeley. My designs have been featured in Interior Design, VS+MD, La Nación, and New York Times. My love of this artform comes from collaborations with the client, my colleagues, and with nature.
